Tablet vs. Camera vs. Smartphone – Your choice for taking photos?

I tend to enjoy technology related discussion especially when it comes to practical uses for our new gadgets. Tablets as we all know and love come with front and rear facing cameras. I’ve been of the mind that with our smartphones ever improving camera and video taking abilities, could we do without a rear facing camera on a tablet? If it meant cheaper pricing perhaps it’s worth looking at.

So the question is for you, are you a tablet owner? Are you a multiple device owner such as a tablet and a smartphone? Do you own a tablet, smartphone and digital camera?

I want to share a story with you about something I saw on vacation this past week. I was up the Seattle Space Needle. Like most other people I was taking pictures with my digital camera. Of course there were plenty of smartphone clicking away also. Ah, but bringing this back to tablets, what did I see? Yes I saw an older gentleman holding up his tablet snapping photos! In fact he was holding his tablet out beyond the walkway almost through the safety wire. I hope he didn’t have sweaty hands I thought to myself. He even took photos of his friends with his 10 inch tablet. Was he the only one waving around a tablet taking photos? You bet.

Now I love tablets. However, I ask myself, what would the quality of those tablet photos be? What’s the highest megapixel rating out there on the 10 inch tablets? If you think about it, it’s a bit nuts. A 10 inch tablet taking photos is silly when you see what I saw. It’s not practical. In fact I found it a bit humorous.

Do you have any table photo taking experiences? Perhaps you’ve been snapping pics with your 2 pound tablet in the 10 inch size right beside people with smartphones and digital cameras. Did you feel a bit strange using it?

Perhaps I’m wrong. I don’t know. It seems like the furthest thing from technology advancements. We have smaller, lighter and much more portable photo taking devices. Should tablets just ditch the rear facing camera all together?

I am partially sighted and the camera function has proved to be a real asset. I can take photos and then enlarge the image to a level that, with the back lighting, enables me to read menus, signs, labelling etc.
It might nit be what they had in mind when it was developed but for it is fantastic for some of us.

I appreciate your comment. Certainly gives me a better appreciation for the cameras.

Why do the 10.1 tablest not have a phone option. Samsung Galaxy tablet 7 inch works like a charm ???

PSe help me get rid of this frustration – having a phone on a 10.1 is a great option
